Civil Rights Act of 1957
This civil rights act came about during Eisenhower's presidency. This civil rights act wanted to increase the number of African American voters and to protect those African American voters. Although this acts was a step in the right direction, it was barley enforced and those who were caught disobeying this act were rarely ever convicted.
Civil Rights Act of 1964
This civil rights act came about during JFK'S presidency. This civil rights act gave the federal government power to prevent racial discrimination. This law ended segregation in several public places across the country and established the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission as a permanent government agency.
Voting Act of 1965
This voting act authorized the attorney general to send out federal examiners to find eligible men and register them to vote because local officials often ignored the African Americans and refused to register them. This act also suspended discriminatory devices that would prevent an African American from being able to vote.
